SteelHouse CEO Mark Douglas Weighs in On Netflix Earnings, Subscriber Growth
Huge jump in subscription growth shows massive move toward Connected TV
Anything Less Than 8 Million Would Be Shocking, Says SteelHouse CEO
Asked this morning for his predictions on Netflix’s earnings report, which was released after the closing bell today, SteelHouse CEO Mark Douglas wouldn’t be pinned into giving an exact number to host Stuart Varney, but stated, “Anything less than 8 million [new subscribers] would be a shock.”
Netflix reported an increase of over 15 million new subscribers, in light of stay-at-home orders and a global pandemic keeping people inside. The number was anything from low, but was still plenty shocking as it easily eclipsed even the most ambitious predictions.
Netflix’s subscriber growth is a bellwether for the increase in Connected TV’s popularity. While trends were pointing toward more people streaming television already, the current global crisis has fast-tracked that growth, and it’s never been more clear than with Netflix massive uptick in subscriptions. This bodes well for pretty much every player in the streaming game, whether its the networks themselves, or advertisers looking to reach viewers on ad-supported networks.
