Key Consumer Audiences Spend 2/3 of Their Time Streaming, Leaving Traditional TV Behind

Cord cutting isn’t traditional TV’s only problem — viewers are watching less traditional television in general. According to Nielsen data, Gen Xers watch 15% less TV than they did 5 years ago. Teens and young Millennials have seen a massive drop of 40% since 2012. Even older generations are moving away from traditional TV, with adults 50+ watching less TV than they did a year ago.

While traditional TV is seeing drops in viewing hours, Connected TV is seeing a steady increase year over year. Streaming favorite shows through a CTV device is becoming the new normal for viewers. With 2/3 of Gen X and Millennial TV consumption coming from Connected TV, it has become a crucial digital channel to reach vital consumer groups.
