Blindster has been a leader in custom window coverings for years, and was already seeing plenty of success driving conversions and revenue. They were looking for a more efficient way to spend their ad budget, though, and turned to SteelHouse retargeting to maximize site traffic and drive the most revenue possible.

Enter SteelHouse

Blindster’s retargeting campaign was launched in early May, with an eye on Memorial Day at the end of the month. Campaign setup was easy; Blindster just entered their budget and goal (no bidding required), and the campaign got underway. The SteelHouse platform’s automated media buying then leveraged real-time data analysis to automatically adjust spend, reach, and handle all bidding—thus removing any sort of manual optimization. This ensured ads were served on the devices, publishers, and placements that had the highest chance of driving a conversion, all at the best price. Through this automated process, the campaign was optimized to solely focus on achieving Blindster’s ROAS goal. 

As Memorial Day approached and performance strengthened, the campaign’s automation allowed Blindster to focus more on strategy than optimization. Thus they added additional budget and ran creative featuring a special holiday promotion. The Memorial Day creative was built using the SteelHouse Ad Builder, allowing them to efficiently construct rich-media ads right in the platform and deploy them to the campaign immediately. Combined with automated media buying, the Memorial Day creative was successful in delivering a strong message at the right time and place. In fact, it was so successful Blindster ended up extending the promotion through the end of the month, past its original end date.

Campaign performance was measured using SteelHouse’s propriety attribution technology, Cross-Device Verified Visits. It tracked cross-device, direct-response performance driven by human interaction—meaning it would only record performance if it was driven by an ad served in-view by IAB standards. This allowed Blindster to accurately assess their campaign’s true impact across multiple devices. And working in conjunction with SteelHouse’s API with Google Analytics, they were able to measure cross-device attribution in GA as well.

The Results

Blindster’s retargeting campaign was a smash success, generating a ROAS of 12.91X. SteelHouse’s automated media buying technology ensured their campaign focused solely on the ad placements that would drive the best ROAS, and when combined with increased ad spend and timely Memorial Day creative, it paid dividends. The 5 day stretch at the end of the month generated 28% higher ROAS compared to the rest of the month, proving that the right mix of technology and creative is the key to getting the most out of any holiday campaign.
